Yuzuru Nishimiya

Yuzuru Nishimiya (西宮結弦) is a character introduced in Koe no Katachi. She is the

younger sister of Shoko Nishimiya and a third-year middle school student (9th grade), but rarely attends. At the end of the series she has Shoya tutor her as she decides to go back to school upon seeing how much her older sister has changed.

At first glance, Yuzuru appears to be overprotective, blunt, straightforward and cold towards people who she dislikes or finds suspicious, which is shown during her first meeting with Shoya Ishida. Yuzuru seems to be the type person who holds grudges. Despite never meeting Ishida before, she does whatever she can to keep him away from her sister, Shoko. As she hated Shoya for bullying her sister in the past. She was also the only one to really defend Shoko from bullies as she fought the boys that threw rocks at her in the manga.

However, upon earning Yuzuru’s trust, her personality will change into that of a kind, sweet and caring person. Yuzuru is very open to people who she knows, especially around Ishida once she got to know him better. However she didn't trust Ueno at all as she felt being around her was not right especially when the girl acted nice with Shoko. Her instincts were correct when she made Shoko take her camera that (had a hidden video recorder inside) with her to record Ueno's conversation when Shoko went with her on the Ferris Wheel.

She is also able to forgive others as she apologizes to Shoya's mother after hearing that Shoya saved her sister from killing herself. She also didn't like it when her mother enters her photos in a contest without her permission and despite this she wanted to changed herself because of Shoko. As she went back to school and even asks Shoya to mentor her in her studies. She also knew that her hobby was the cause of Shoko wanting to kill herself as she thought that taking photos of dead animals or flowers would make Shoko not want to kill herself. As she blames herself for making Shoko's suicidal thoughts get worse.

Yuzu admits being around Shoya reminds her of her grandma as she sees that his advice reminds her of her late relative, as he sounds just like her.
