Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (遊☆戯☆王デュエルモンスターズ) is a Japanese anime series based on the second arc of
the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga that is call Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist. It is produced by Studio Gallop, and Nihon Ad Systems. While the English version is distributed by 4Kids Entertainment, and now currently by Funimation Entertainment. The series began its 224 episode run in Japan on April 18, 2000 to September 29, 2004. In the U.S it air on September 29, 2001 to June 10, 2006. In Japan, the series aired on TV Tokyo. In the United States it was broadcast on Kids WB, Nicktoons, and on Cartoon Network. The story tells that 3,000 years ago (5,000 years ago in the English Version) marked the turning point of an Egyptian dynasty. The Pharaoh's spirit was sealed inside one of the ancient relics, the Millennium Puzzle. Now in the present age of 1996, Yugi Muto is possessed by the sprit of the old Pharaoh, who lost all of his memories from his old life. As a thank you to Yami Yugi who saved him from bullies, and gave him new friends. Yugi decided to help Yami Yugi find a way to recover his lost memories, and send him to the afterlife.
The story follows Yugi Muto, a boy who managed to complete an ancient Egyptian artifact known as the Millenium Puzzle, which led to him to inherit another spirit known only as Yami Yugi. After defeating his rival, Seto Kaiba, in a game of Duel Monsters. Yugi is approached by a man named Maximillion Pegasus, who uses the power of another Millenium Item, the Millenium Eye, to kidnap the soul of his grandfather, Solomon Muto. Joined by his friends, Joey Wheeler, Tristan Taylor, and Tea Gardner, Yugi enters Pegasus' Duelist Kingdom tournament, battling against many opponents in order to reach Pegasus and defeat him, freeing his grandfather's soul. In the end Yugi also got the Kaiba brother's souls back. In order to thank Yugi and his friends, the Kaiba brothers gave him a ride back to Domino city, which was requested by Mokuba much to Seto's annoyance. Yugi also gives Joey the prize money, so Serenity Wheeler can have her eye operation, which made Joey very happy,
When Kaiba is stuck in the virtual world thanks to the Big Five, Mokuba asks Yugi to help get his brother out of the game. While inside the building, Mokuba volunteers to help Yugi with the game and Joey goes with them. Therefore Tea and Tristan stay behind to guard their location from Kemo and his henchmen who wants the boys to be stuck in the game. As they are inside the game, they fight in a tournament and meet Mai. Therefore Mai decides to help them find Kaiba, soon after they meet the princess who looks like Mokuba. The princess is force to be a sacrifice but Mokuba takes her place, and this leads him to Kaiba. Meanwhile Yugi, Mai and Joey take a flying boat to go to Kaiba's location. However they fight many monsters along the ways. Upon seeing his Elma get sacrificed, Yugi the same into Yami Yugi, they then defeat the monsters and arrive at the castle.
While inside the Castle, they have to fight the big fives' dragons. However Joey, Mai and Mokuba get sacrificed. Therefore Kaiba and Yami Yugi combine their dragons and defeat all five dragons. They win the game and are surprised when Joey, Mai and Mokuba are brought to life. All five of them walk through the portal and are back in the real world. As Yugi, Joey and Mokuba walk up, Kemo and his groans finally break into their room but Tristan tries to fight them off. However the groans run away when Mokuba tells them that his brother is looking for them. After the groans leave, everyone was shock that Mai aAs in the room next to them all along. She then thanks them for the challenge and leaves. After Mai left, Mokuba thanks everyone and goes to look for his brother.
While in school, Yugi defeats Duke Devlin in a game call Dungeons Dice Monsters, which is a game that Duke created because he wanted to see how good Yugi's game skills were. While Yugi finds out that the game was created, because Duke wanted Pegasus to sponsor it, but the former couldn't because of the Duelist Kingdom Tournament. (In the manga, the game was created because Duke's father wanted to get revenge on Yugi for being Solomon Muto's grandson). In the end Yugi, and Duke become friends after Duke's game becomes a great hit.
Later on, Yugi learns that the other Yugi dwelling within him is actually a nameless Pharaoh from Egyptian times, who must seek out ways to remember who he is. As such, Yugi enters the Battle City tournament, held by Kaiba, in order to obtain the three Egyptian God cards and Millenium Items needed to unveil the Pharaoh's past. Along the way, Yugi comes against even stronger opponents, including the wielder of the Millenium Rod, Marik Ishtar. Yugi defeats all of the Rare Hunters, and is ready for the Battle City Finals.
While on the way to the Battle City finals, Yugi and his friends also gets sucked into a virtual world run by Kaiba's adoptive father, Gozaburo Kaiba. In the end they escape from the virtual world the help of a reformed Noah Kaiba who is Gozaburo's biological son.
At Battle City finals, Yugi wins the tournament and frees Marik from his dark half.
This makes Yugi obtain all three Egyptain God cards, including Ishizu's Millnnenium Necklace along with the Millnnenium Rod. However he decides to have a friendly battle with Joey at the pier.
After obtaining all three Egyptian God cards, Yugi and his friends find themselves under attack by the order of Doma, who seek to gather souls in order to revive the ancient dragon, Leviathan. The gang learn that Mai Valentine was also apart of Dartz's group, but Joey makes her come back to her senses in one final duel with her. In the end they stop Doma's plan and peace is restored. Along with Dartz including his three henchmen named Rafael, Valon and Alister making amends with Yugi, Joey and Kaiba. Including that Mai has decided to not to speak to Joey again until the time is right.
While staying at Rebecca Hawkins' house, Yugi and the gang learn from Mokuba Kaiba, that they are participating in the KC Grand Championship Tournament that Kaiba is sponsoring himself. Things go wrong when the gang learn that Kaiba's rival, Siegfried is trying to ruin the tournament to get revenge on Kaiba for having the best Corporations. In the end, Kaiba stops Siegfried's plan of hacking viruses in the computers. Including for Yugi to defeat Siegfried's reformed little brother, Leon in a duel. In the end Yugi defeated Leon, and became champion once again. While Siegfried and Leon make amends with each other. Yugi and his friends are giving a ride back to Domino City once again by the help of Mokuba.
Upon obtaining all the Millenium Items, the Pharaoh is sent back to Egyptian times to relive his past life, coming up against his nemesis, Yami Bakura, who plots to rewrite history using the power of the evil Zorc. After the Pharaoh manages to defeat Bakura after his friends help him learn his true name, Atem. He and Yugi take part in one final duel so that Atem can return to the afterlife. In the end Yugi defeats Atem, and the former returned to the afterlife vowing to never forget Yugi and the others. Now that Atem's story is over, Yugi vows to become strong just like Atem since his own story has just begun.
Difference Between Anime and Manga[]

In the manga, this storyline takes place after the Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 manga. But in the anime, the storyline doesn't take place after Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 at all whatsoever.
In the manga, Yami Yugi and Yugi have three different colors in their hair. The three colors in order from bottom to top are (yellow, black and red). But in the anime, Yami Yugi and Yugi's hair colors from bottom to top are (yellow, black and magenta).
In the manga, both of Yami Yugi's eyes are colored light aqua green. But in the anime, both of Yami Yugi's eyes are the color purple instead.
In the manga, Yugi and his friends never knew about Solomon's duel with Kaiba. But in the anime, Yugi gets a phone call from Kaiba about Solomon's duel with him.
In the manga, Solomon gets scare to death after losing to Kaiba in a duel by seeing a virtual simulator. But in the anime, he gets injured after being shock to death by seeing the virtual simulator off screen.
In the anime, Yugi battles Kaiba after Solomon had lost by trying to teach Kaiba about the heart of the cards. But in the manga, they fought at Death-T.
In the manga, when Yami Yugi has doubts about winning the duel it is young Yugi that talks to Solomon about the cards in his deck. But in the anime, it is Yami Yugi that sees Solomon when they chat about Solomon’s card advice about Exodia.
In the manga, after Yami Yugi mind crushs Kaiba. He shatters the evil in Kaiba's heart by making Kaiba fix the missing pieces of his heart like a jigsaw puzzle. This has led Kaiba to be in a coma for six months. But in the anime, Yugi still mind crushed Kaiba. However he shattered all the evil in Kaiba's heart so he can still walk away after the penalty game.
In the anime, Joey has a duel with Tea while they are in class. But in the manga, this isn't shown whatsoever.
In the manga, Yugi meets up his grandpa who is sweeping outside of the shop after school. But in the anime, they all meet inside the shop after school.
In the manga, Joey and Yugi are shock to see Pegasus speak face to face to them from the video tape. But in the anime, everyone in the room is shock upon seeing this.
In the manga, it is Joey and Yugi that has all the info on Pegasus. But in the anime, it is Solomon that has all the info on Pegasus.
In the anime, when Yugi and his friends meet Pegasus through a video tape. Tristan is present to see the duel. But in the manga, Tristan is not present at all.

But in the anime, since his friends and grandpa can't help him. Yami Yugi does the no see card tactic. After thinking that Pegasus can see cards in a person's hand by using magic or hypnosis, Yami Yugi realizes that Pegasus can't see cards when they are pull from the deck.
In the manga, when the TV duel is at 5 mins. Yami Yugi thinks of a short tactic that will defeat faceless maze quickly so he can win the duel. But in the anime, when the TV duel is at 5 mins. In the manga, when there is 8 seconds left for his TV duel against Pegasus. Yami Yugi decides to use Summon Skull to win the duel before the timer reach 0. In the manga, during the conclusion of Yugi's duel against Pegasus through a video tape. Yami Yugi's score is 200 Life Points while Pegasus has 500 Life Points. But in the anime, Yami Yugi had 400 Life Points while Pegasus had 1200 Life Points.
In the manga, when Yugi's grandpa is shown on TV after his soul is taken. It is Yami Yugi who sees this in person. But in the anime, it is Yugi who sees this instead.
In the manga, Yugi's Grandpa lost his soul after Yugi loses to Pegasus through their duel from the television. Therefore his soul is placed in the videotape that only Yugi can use. But in the anime, his soul is shown on TV but is officially put in a soul card.
In the manga, after Yugi lost against Pegasus. Yami Yugi is shown staring outside in front of the Domino City high school fence. But in the anime, it is Yugi who stares at the fence. Whereas Yami Yugi's mind is heard on screen.
In the manga, when Joey got Serenity's video tape that was sent to him to look at through a VCR. Yugi and the others are present when he sees the tape on screen. But in the anime, Yugi and the others are not present during this scene. Therefore Joey looks at the video tape by himself because he has a VCR.
In the manga, Yami Yugi gives Joey his second star chip before they leave to go on the cruise. But in the anime, Yugi gives Joey his star chip after the guards caught Joey trying to get on the cruise.
In the manga, Yami Yugi is present when Joey says that he doesn't have enough money for Serenity's eye surgery. But in the anime, only Yugi is present during this scene when he and friends learn about Serenity as they are on the boat to duelist kingdom.
In the manga, Tristan wears a headband on his head when he goes to duelist kingdom. But in the anime, he doesn't wear a headband.
In the manga, Tea and Tristan got on the cruise without any problems since the guards thought they were duelists. But in the anime, they snuck on the boat without the guards knowing. However when the guards saw them leaving the boat, they thought the two were duelist and one of the guards told Tristan to relax a little more.
In the manga, Bakura joins Yugi and the others on the boat ride to Duelist Kingdom. But in the anime, he doesn't join Yugi at all. Because he goes on the boat ride by himself.
In the manga, Yugi and the gang meet Mai before they get on the cruise. Including that Joey and Tristan call her a babe after smelling her perfume. Which makes Tea angry at all three of them by calling them "idiots". But in the anime, it's Yugi and Joey who only meet Mai on the cruise. Whereas Tea angrily comments from the shadows with Tristan, that boys are "unbelievable" when they met an older woman.
In the manga, Mai tells Yugi and his friends that duelists work alone before going on the cruise. But in the anime, she says this to Yugi and Joey while they are on the cruise.
In the manga, Yugi and his friends witness Mai complaining about not having her own room so she can take a shower. But in the anime, Yugi and his friends don't witness this at all.
In the manga, Yugi is by himself when Weevil throws his Exodia cards in the ocean. But in the anime, he is with Joey when this happens.
In the manga, Joey got Time Wizard from another duelist. But in the anime, it’s Yugi that gave Joey the card.
In the manga, while Joey gets two of the Exodia cards. Yami Yugi comes out, and tells Weevil angrily in person that he is going down. However Weevil says I like to see you try in his mind before leaving. But in the anime, Weevil leaves after throwing the cards in the ocean. However Yami Yugi vows to defeat Weevil when they finally reach the island.
In the manga, Yami Yugi is present when they are all on the island. But in the anime, it is Yugi.
In the manga, Yami Yami apologized to Joey for getting a cold. But in the anime, Yugi is the one who says this.
In the manga, Yami Yugi tells Weevil while looking at him that he is going down first when they are on the island. But in the anime, it is Yugi that says this. Yami Yugi actually said this in the uncut version of the anime, before the gang reached the island.
In the manga, before Pegasus is shown on the island. Random duelist don't question what Yugi looks like. But in the anime, they say this which makes Joey and Tea give Yugi encouraging looks on their face.

In the manga, Yami Yugi threatened all his star chips and life to Weevil who found this to be very funny. But in the anime, Yami Yugi threaten his life as a duelist by risking to lose his whole card deck, to which Weevil found this to be very interesting.
In the manga, Yami Yugi eye winks at Weevil for falling into one of his traps. But in the anime, Yami Yugi smirks at Weevil instead.
In the manga, after Yami Yugi defeated Weevil. He threatened Weevil to get off island now or else he will drag him by his legs in order to so. But in the anime, it is Joey who threatened Weevil to get off the island. Which caused Weevil to faint on the ground.
In the manga, Yami Yugi suspected that Mai wanted to battle him from the start. But in anime, this scene never happen. Instead Mai saw how many star chips Yugi had and had a smirk smile on her face.
In the manga, Yami Yugi and the gang decide to still cheer on for Joey during his first duel. Even giving no advice on how to defeat Mai. But in the anime, Yugi and the gang see how Joey is struggling against Mai. Therefore in the end it is Yami Yugi who gives Joey the hint on how to defeat Mai.
In the manga, Yami Yugi is next to Joey when it shows how many star chips they have. But in the anime, Yugi is shown when it shows how many star chips they have.
In the manga, when Joey complains about Tea not packing lunch. Yami Yugi tells everyone that they just can't eat for 48 hours. But in the anime, Yugi tells them that they are only on the island for two days and that they can’t go long without food.
In the manga, when Joey and Tristan eat Mako's fish. Yami Yugi is shown being amuse by saying "oh boy these silly kids" while seeing this. But in the anime, it is Yugi being shown to be amused.
In the manga, when Mako has a small octopus on his head. Joey becomes scare by telling this. But in the anime, it is Tea who tells Mako this. She even laughs upon seeing the small octopus on his head, which confused Mako.
In the manga, Yami Yugi is shown to learn a little bit about Mako's reputation. But is unsure if he is a skilled duelist. Since he thinks that Mako doesn't play card games, therefore he says he'll never know. But in the anime, it is Yugi who knows about Mako when they first meet.
In the manga, when Yami Yugi and the gang are about to leave after Mako gave them free fish to eat. Mako throws a bowing arrow a few inches away from Yami Yugi's feet. But in the anime, it is Yugi who is shown during this scene.
In the manga, when Mako is eating with Yugi and the gang. He explains a little bit about his past to them. But in the anime, he explain about his past during his duel with Yami Yugi.
In the manga, Mako and his dad wreak their ship after an oil spill, but both survive. Not only that his dad would borrow other fishermens’ boats during bad weather to fish, since they lost theirs. It's reveal that this was how he died. But in the anime, Mako tells the story of how dad died when their ship crashed the first time. Mako then goes on a several minute-long hysterical rant, confusing everyone as to whether he’s fighting with the sea or against it.
In the manga, it never shows how Mokuba escaped Pegasus' castle so he can go confront Yugi. But in the anime, it does shown how Mokuba escaped the castle.
In the manga, Pegasus doesn't spy on Yugi whatsoever. But in the anime, he uses a security camera to spy on Yugi during a duel.
In the manga, Kemo never told Yami Yugi that there never was a time limit for eliminated duelists to leave the island. But in the anime, he tricks them saying that the boat leaves in 30 minutes.
In the manga, Yami Yugi doesn’t care about Kaibacorp even laughing by seeing how hard Mokuba is struggling while running the company without Kaiba. But in the anime, Yami Yugi does show concern for Mokuba by telling him that he can’t protect Kaibacorp by stealing.
In the manga, Yami Yugi and the others see the eliminated duelist leaving the island by boat before they found Mokuba. But in the anime, this happens after they found Mokuba.

In the manga, after Yami Yugi's duel with Mokuba is shorten. Mokuba tells the gang that he never let Pegasus' henchman have Kaibacorp, even if they open his stomach. But in the anime, Mokuba says that he will protect Kaibacorp in the name of his older brother.
In the manga, it never shows how Mokuba was kidnapped to be taken to Pegasus' castle. But in the anime, it does show how he was kidnapped. He was captured by Kemo.
In the manga, after hearing what Pegasus is up to with Kaibacorp. Yami Yugi shows his dark humor side which makes Mokuba angry. But in the anime, after hearing what Pegasus is up to with Kaibacorp. Yami Yugi is more concern about Mokuba even when he still wants Kaiba to understand about the Heart of the Cards.
In the manga, it's reveal that Mokuba had swallowed the key on purpose since it unlocks all documents to Kaibacorp. He swallowed the key so that Pegasus' henchmen won't get it. But in the anime, it's reveal that the key is the duel monsters photo locket picture of Seto that Mokuba wears around his neck.
In the manga, Kemo confronts Mokuba when he is about to hand Yami Yugi his star chips. But in the anime, Kemo confronts Mokuba when he tells him to call back the boat so he can give the Stars Chips back to the eliminated duelist that he stole them from.
In the manga, Kemo uses Mokuba as a hostage after he sees him giving Yami Yugi Star Chips. But in the anime, he uses Mokuba as a hostage after slapping the star chips out of Mokuba's hand and sends the Star Chips into the ocean.
In the manga, in order for Mokuba to gain freedom. Kemo tells Yami Yugi to come find him when he has an opponent for him to face. But in anime, Kemo tells Yami Yugi to meet him in 1 hour to face his opponent.
In the manga, Kaiba is shown to beat up Pegasus' henchman while being spotted by them. But in the anime, he knows how to get pass Pegasus' henchman without having to beat them up.
In the manga, the Mimic of Doom uses a small puppet of Kaiba to hide is voice. But in the anime, he pretends to be Kaiba. Along with using Kaiba's deck to make Yami Yugi become confuse.
In both the manga and anime, Mokuba tells Yami Yugi that he believed their earlier conversation that Kaiba will come back and that he will still wait for him. Including that Mokuba told Kemo multiple times that Kaiba isn't dead, which gave Yami Yugi the strength to battle on against the Mimic of Doom.
In the manga, Kaiba's will to wake up from his coma is what led for the first Blue Eyes White Dragon to be destroyed. But in the anime, Kaiba helped Yugi destroyed the Dragon by putting a virus in it.
In both the manga and anime, Yami Yugi had 500 Life Points when he defeated the Mimic of Doom.
In the manga, due to the holy elf card. Yami Yugi's Blue Eyes White Dragon had 3800 Life Points when it defeated the Imitator of Death. But in the anime, it had 4100.
In the manga, Yami Yugi gave the Mimic of Doom a penalty game that made him see that he was going to be eaten by his own puppet. But in the anime, Yami Yugi made the Mimic of Doom vanish off the face of the earth.
In the manga, it is Yami Yugi who noticed that Mokuba is gone after the duel with the Imitator of Death. But in the anime, it is Tea who noticed it.
In the manga, before Joey duels against Rex Raptor. He sees some duelists are scare to duel him because Yami Yugi is right next to him. But in the anime, this scene is never shown. Instead Mai asks him to duel Rex.
In the manga, Yugi and the gang decide to still cheer Joey during his second duel. But in the anime, they say that it would be better for him to fight a weaker duelist than a strong duelist. Even offering for Yugi to take Joey's place in the duel, which made Joey mad that Tea and Tristan are not letting him fight his own battles.
In the manga, it is Joey who forbids his friends from giving him advice during his duel against Rex Raptor. But in the anime it is Mai who does this.
In the manga, during Joey's duel against Rex Raptor since Joey forbid them to give advice to him. Yugi tries to break the promise to help Joey, but Yami Yugi stops him telepathy by saying that this is Joey's battle, and that he needs to fight alone. But in the anime, this scene never happen at all. Instead Yugi talks to Tristan while Joey has a hard time dueling Rex.
In the manga, after Joey defeated Rex Raptor. Mai even cheered for him. However she stop once Tea saw her. But in the anime, this never happened. Instead she was shock that Rex lost.
In the anime, Yami Yugi and Yami Bakura battle with Yugi, Joey, Tea, Tristan and Bakura's souls inside of cards. Including that it is their first battle. But in the manga, their first battle is in the RPG miniature world.

In the manga, Yugi and co. go to the Domino Museum to present the God Cards to the tablet, which is still on display there. The RPG table is set up in a back room of the museum. One month later, they travel to Egypt to have the Ceremonial Duel. But in the anime, the entire arc takes place in Egypt. Because the tablet has already been moved back to the tomb from which it came. The RPG table is like, in the Shadow Realm or something. The Ceremonial Duel happens the day after the RPG.
In the manga, the rooftop duel between Kaiba and Yami Bakura does not occur. But in the anime, it does show their duel.
In the manga, Yami Bakura gives the Millennium Eye to Yami Yugi. But in the anime, he gives it to Kaiba.
In the manga, Bakura doesn't go with Yugi and the others to help Yami Yugi because Bobasa senses the evil in Yami Bakura's heart. Therefore Bakura left, however Yami Bakura leaves his body when Yami Yugi wins the Millnnenium world game. Even to the point that he doesn't leave Bakura unconscious. However Yami Yugi knew that Yami Bakura was using Bakura's body while they play the Millnnenium world game. But in the anime, Bakura tries his hardest not be controlled by Yami Bakura. He also refuses to help Yami Bakura get the other Millnnenium items. Which was something that Yami Bakura refused to hear from him. However Yami Bakura leaves Bakura's body on the stairs that leads to the Egyptain stone tablet. Therefore he leaves Bakura unconscious for the remainer of the arc, and doesn't use Bakura's body while playing the Millnnenium world game.
In the manga, when Yugi and his friends are in the pharaoh's memories. Their unconscious bodies are placed in coffins that are in the basement of the museum. But in the anime, their unconscious bodies remain in front of the Egyptain stone tablet.
In the manga, Yugi and co. are met by Bobasa in front of the museum. Bobasa claims to have been sent by Shadi to help them with finding the Pharaoh’s memories. Bobasa uses the Scales to weigh everyone’s heart (and kicks Bakura out of the group because the scales detect Yami Bakura), then helps Yugi, Joey, Tristan, and Tea unlock the door in the Millennium Puzzle. He follows them around in the Memory World until Zorc is released from the tablet. At that point, he turns into Hasan. At the end of the story, Hasan is killed, and he (and by extension, Bobasa) is revealed to have been Shadi all along. But in the anime, it’s Shadi who meets Yugi and co. in the underground tomb. Shadi helps them find the door out of the Millennium Puzzle, but he does not follow them onto the game board. They meet Bobasa during the scene in the marketplace where Kisara is discovered. Bobasa hangs out with them and helps them find the tomb where the pharaoh’s name is kept. Then he disappears, never to be explained. Hasan the game piece dies protecting Atem from an attack by Zorc. A few episodes later, Shadi possesses the corpse of Hasan and protects the pharaoh again, and dies.
In the manga, the main part of Yami Bakura, the one that’s being hosted by regular Bakura, is the one sitting on the other side of the RPG table. And it is Bakura’s physical body that’s sitting there, not any sort of spiritual manifestation. Only Atem is sucked into the tablet. The hunk of Yami Bakura that was planted inside the Puzzle before Battle City sneaks into the Memory World when Yugi and co. open the door between the Puzzle and the Memory World. This is the part that will stand in their way when he rewinds time, and when he’s trying to block their way to learning the pharaoh’s name. But in the anime, the main part of Yami Bakura, the one from the host, gets sucked into the tablet with Atem. The part that was planted in the puzzle also gets sucked into the tablet. One of these becomes the player sitting at the table, and one immediately possesses the Thief King game piece. This second part is the part that will eventually possess Tristan, and it is this part that tries to keep them from learning the pharaoh’s name).
In the manga, Atem's mother is shown in a flashback. But in the anime, she is not shown instead her husband, Aknamkanon, is shown holding Atem as an infant.
In the manga, Akhenaden created the Millennium items when Atem was an infant. But in the anime, he created the Millennium items during Seto's childhood.
In the manga, the High Priest of Darkness kidnaps Priest Seto from the battle against Zorc. Seto tries to save Kisara from the collapsing palace, but the High Priest kills her, then possesses Seto. Atem and possessed-Seto face off after Zorc has been defeated. But in the anime, Priest Seto is kidnapped from the tomb where the Millennium Items tablet is kept. They end up at the (not-yet-collapsing) palace. The High Priest kills Kisara, Seto kills the High Priest, and then possessed-Seto fights Atem when Atem arrives. All of this is happening while the (anime-only) timer for the revival of Zorc runs out. Seto and Atem then go on to fight Zorc in the final battle.
In the anime, Kaiba’s whole participation the final battle against Zorc doesn’t happen. There’s no fusing the three BEWD souls and the Dragon Master Knight, or any other cards he summons in the battle. But in the manga, he never joined Yugi in this battle.
In the manga, Mokuba and Kaiba are not present for the Ceremonial Duel. They are shown in the desert after the battle. But in the anime, they are present during the ceremonial battle.
Dark Side of Dimensions
In the manga, Kaiba tries to bring Atem back to life but whines up meeting Sera. But in the film, Kaiba meets Aigami instead of his sister.
In the manga, Tristan asks Yugi if he is thinking about Atem. But in the film, it's Joey that says this.
In the manga, Duke doesn't spin a serving tray after giving his friends there food orders. But in the film, Duke does do this in front of his friends.
In the manga, Kaiba is obsessed with bringing Atem back so that they can continue their rivalry. But in the film, Kaiba wants to bring Atem back so that they can duel again.
In the manga, Sera can see the future. But in the film, she can't see the future.
In the manga, when Atem saves Joey from the other dimension. Joey is shock upon seeing him again. But in the film, Joey thinks that he saw Atem however he doesn't tell Yugi about it until later.
In the manga, Yami Yugi takes the millennium puzzle with him so that no one doesn't use it ever again. But in the film, Yami Yugi takes the millennium puzzle after helping Yugi defeat Aigami.
In the manga, all of Yugi's friends such as Duke come to see Tea off. But in the film, only Yugi including Joey, Tristan and Solomon come to see Tea off.
Yami Yugi and his friends appear in a lot of commercial promos for Kids WB. The show had only aired 9 episodes on Toonami on August 6, 2005 to September 10, 2005 with a lot of promo commercials. In reality the show had aired during Cartoon Network’s City Era for the afternoon time slot for 2 years from 2004 to 2005. The last time the show aired was in 2006 and in 2009, 2010/2012 for The CW4Kids now call The Votrexx, including in 2013 for NickToons.
A new sequel series to this anime series franchise will be released in 2020. It was to revolve around Yugi and his friends during a time skip when they are in college. Either way fans don't want a different spin off of Yu-Gi-Oh!. However fans are upset as it's actually another different spin off of Yu-Gi-Oh!.
The first Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series to have all of its 224 episodes Dubbed completely in English. The second is Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal while the third is Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V.

The Duel Monster series is not to be confused with the earlier series of the same name. As the series is the second anime to be based on the manga. Some sources state erroneously that the first series produced by Toei Animation is a "lost first season", although the two series are unrelated aside from plot continuity. The success of the Duel Monster series was one of the main factors in creating a real-world version of the game that served as the focal point of the series, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game.
Ishizu Ishtar is named after Isis, the egyptian goddess who at one point was the principle goddess of Egypt. "Isis" is taken from an onomatopoeic Asianic word, Ish-ish, meaning "she who weeps". A rather fitting name, as Isis is heavily concerned about her younger brother, Malik.
The beginning of Yugi and Jounochi's names form "yujou", Japanese for "friendship".
Kaiba's given name "Seto" is based on the Egyptian God Set.
Tea's Japanese name, "Anzu" means "apricot".
In the Japanese version, the nameless spirit inside Yugi's puzzle is known to the audience as "Yami Yugi" or "Dark Yugi". Yugi calls the spirit inside his puzzle "Mou Hitori no Boku" meaning "The Other Me". At first, Yami Yugi calls his host "Mou Hitori no Ore", meaning the same thing, only less formal. After Yugi beats Pegasus, Yami Yugi calls his host "Aibou" meaning "partner". Yugi's friends refer to the spirit as "Mou Hitori no Yuugi", or more commonly the "The Other Yugi".
Serenity's Japanese name, "Shizuka", means "quiet", "peaceful", or "calm".
Yugi means "game" or "to play".
Mai's Japanese last name, "Kujaku", means "peacock".
Yugi's hair is based off a five fingered hand, from the saying that when a person is born and becomes able to see, the very first thing that a person visually memorizes is the shape of their palm.
The title Yu-Gi-Oh! literally means the "King of Game" or "King of Duel" which is used in the series. Yugi means "game" and the letters oh or u means king.
Marik is the Japanese transcription of the arabic name "Malik" which means "king". *Kisara means "broken" in arabic.
The title "Yugioh" is intended as a double word pun. "Yugioh" means "Game King" but if the "ou" is interpreted as an honorific then "Yugi-oh" basically means "King Yugi", which serves as a clue to the other Yugi's true identity (Yami Yugi).
Dan Green (the English voice of Yugi and Yami Yugi) has been a special guest and presenter at several official Konami Tournaments, where he often participates in a Scripted Duel and sometimes participates in Q&As. He also has advertised www.yugioh.com.
The 20th anniversary logo
A series of uncut DVDs were made by 4kids Entertainment and FUNimation. This adaption stuck closer to the original Japanese in dialogue and events. Text is not removed, and as such Japanese cards from the original version are used. Some original names such as Sugoroku Muto are kept. Some characters names are a mixture of their original and English anime names, such as Joey Katsuya and Tea Mazaki. Also in this case Tristan is voiced by Greg Abbey in the uncut DVDs. Whereas Mai is voiced by Kathleen Delaney rather than Megan Hollingshead or Bella Hudson.
In Japan, Yu-Gi-Oh! was shown in a remaster version titled 20th anniversary by showing a remastered re-broadcast of the Duelist Kingdom arc. Then with the Battle City Edition (バトル・シティ編) being a remastered re-broadcast of the Battle City arc. The series will skip the Virtual World storyline and will just show a remaster version of the Memory World as the series finale. Therefore the remaster version of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters is following the manga storyline. Also in the Japanese version and English version of the original series, Yami Yugi is the narrator. Whereas in the remaster version of the English original series, Kemo is the narrator instead. Anime News Network said the uncut English version had planned two more dvd that went up to episode 15 of the first season. Another source said that the Uncut Dub had completed all 40 Episodes of the Duelist Kingdom Arc. A third source sad that the Uncut Dub had completed up to the Battle City Arc. While a fourth source said that the Uncut Dub had completed all 224 episodes.
As of now in 2018, this anime will be forbidden to watch on YouTube because Funimation the company that now owns the Anime in English has blocked anyone on YouTube from uploading full episodes and the movie on their own YouTube account without the company's permission. Therefore this Anime will be blocked if you try to watch an episode in Japanese or in English. Other animes that share this issue on YouTube are Trigun, Sailor Moon, the Dragon Ball franchise, Code Geass, Eureka Seven, Wolf's Rain, Mars Daybreak, Claymore, Deadman Wonderland, Digimon Adventure 02, Fruits Basket, YuYu Hakusho, Soul Eater and Sengoku Basara. Therefore you would have to either buy all these anime on DVD, or watch all these anime on the Funimation website instead of YouTube.
During most of Yugi's transformation into Yami Yugi in the English version, a scene of them transforming is added. In the Japanese version, each transformation scene is only shown once and whenever Yugi changes into Yami Yugi afterwards, the scene just switches from Yugi to Yami Yugi with no transformation scene.
A drawing of Yami Yugi with his hair down instead of sticking up was released on the internet and fans said that it's impressive.
Several video games have been release since the anime ended.
Yami Yugi and Seto Kaiba are the only two playable characters in the Jump Force video game.
Fans in Japan wish for this anime series to be made into a live action film.
Although the series continues from where the Toei anime ended, it is actually a reboot of the previous series. There are several parts that reveal it.
Yami Yugi never challenged Ushio in a Shadow Game because when Ushio beat up Yugi, it was the same time that he stood up for Joey and Tristan, and at that time the Millenium Puzzle wasn't completed yet.
Death-T never happened, because it was altered in just a Duel Monsters game using the technology of Solid Vision.
The Monster World game between Yami Bakura and Yami Yugi became a Duel Monsters Shadow Game.
Miho Nosaka was absent in the whole series, without a single cameo of her. She appears in the video game as she is call Melody.
Many characters had their appearance changed, like Seto Kaiba, Solomon Muto, Yugi Muto, Shadi Shin, Yami Yugi and etc.
Shadi's first meeting with Yugi was changed to be in the end of Duelist Kingdom arc. Also this time, Shadi helped the gang many times in latter episodes instead of putting them in trouble, so he never played the Labyrinth Treasure Hunt and never challenged Yami Yugi to the Trial of the Mind.
Mokuba's favorite game, Capsule Monster Chess, was remade as Capsule Monsters.
The Jiro the Jorogumo incident was remade to a less violent incident with Tea being threatened by a Mugger in a warehouse, and saved by Yami Yugi by playing a Duel Monsters Drawing Shadow Game.
Yugi solved the Puzzle in a different way, as shown in season 0 and in Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light.
