Jackie Chan Adventures is an North American animated television series starring the adventures of a fictionalized cartoon

Jackie Chan Adventures

version of action film star Jackie Chan. Many of the episodes contain references to Chan's actual works. This series ran on Kids' WB! from September 9, 2000 to July 8, 2005 with a total of 95 episodes. During its run it was also shown on Cartoon Network, and afterwards its reruns landed on Jetix (Disney XD). There have been several toys, light novel books and video games based on the series.

Plot

Jackie is recruited by Section 13 to search for twelve magic talismans scattered across the globe, in order to stop a criminal organization known as the Dark Hand from using them to revive an ancient demon sorcerer, Shendu. He helps getting the Rooster Talisman that he finds embedded in a shield in a Bavarian castle. He must also deal with his niece, who has flown in to live with him.

While dining in a Chinese restaurant, Uncle tells Jackie and Jade about the legend of the Talismans. The one they have bears the mark of the rooster, and there are twelve talismans altogether -- one for each member of the Chinese zodiac, and each with a different magical power. Jade is eager to start the search, and she asks Jackie to teach her his martial arts skills. While trying to imitate them, she accidentally kicks a waiter, which causes a chain of accidents and wreckage that launches the talisman into a bowl of noodle soup. While Jackie lectures Jade on the importance of self-discipline over mere ambition, the bowl is delivered to the Chans, and Jade unknowingly swallows the talisman.

Just then, the Enforcers arrive looking for the talisman, and Jackie fights them off. When he looks back to the table, he sees the talisman missing, and he comes to a conclusion that the Dark Hand took it. Outside, the Enforcers call Valmont and report that they could not find the talisman. Shendu provides Valmont a seeking device, giving it first to the Shadowkhan. Jackie catches up with the Enforcers trying to drive away and fights with them for the talisman. Meanwhile, the Shadowkhan have used the detector to identify Jade as the bearer of the talisman. Jackie moves to fight them off, but they are pursuing Jade, who struggles to escape them by swiping a skateboard. In her frantic dash to get away, Jade accidentally rides off of a bridge, but to her shock, she does not fall. While she turns and floats back to a safe footing, Jackie fights the Shadowkhan, and his efforts combined with Jade's knock them all off the bridge. He then turns to her, but he does not believe her statement that she can fly. Even as he tries to understand it, Tohru appears behind him and knocks him out. Tohru then holds up the seeking device he has picked up, seeing that it points to Jade.

At a fish cannery, Tohru calls Valmont, reporting that he has kidnapped Jade and Jackie, and although the device indicates the girl, she does not have the talisman. Shendu advises for Tohru to look within, and Valmont adds, "While you're at it, eliminate Jackie Chan." In the next room, Jackie regains consciousness just as Tohru arrives to dissect Jade, who is strapped to a table. They realize that the talisman is in her stomach, and Jackie tells her to get away somehow. Jade remembers how she flew before, and she tries to escape her bonds, but she ends up levitating everything else in the room. As Tohru prepares his sword, she knocks him out with a barrel of fish and then cuts herself and Jackie free. She is now capable of floating several feet in the air and propelling other objects by concentrating her will through the talisman. The two try to escape, but the Enforcers arrive and Tohru wakes up. Jade is able to beat the henchmen, but Tohru provides a much tougher fight. Jade tries to help Jackie with her new power, but it causes more trouble than help, and Tohru seizes Jackie in a crushing grip. Then, she gets the idea of lifting Tohru himself. She raises him twenty feet into the air, then drops him just after Jackie drops out of his grip. Tohru crashes through the floor into the ocean, and Jackie barely escapes being crushed beneath.

At Section 13, Jackie tells Captain Black that Uncle was right about the talismans having magic. Captain Black does not believe him, and he moves on to say that Jackie and Jade have to live at Section 13 because they need him for research. Just then, Jade enters the room, as her stomach has just been pumped and the talisman has been retrieved. When she sees that she'll be living in a super-secret underground base, she asks if she is a secret agent now, and both Jackie and Captain Black are quick to reply, "No".

Jackie travels to a Mexican pyramid in search of the Ox Talisman, and the Enforcers follow him. Inside the pyramid, Jackie finds that the talisman has already been taken by someone else, but just then, the Dark Hand confronts him for it, and he manages to escape with a little help from Jade - who wasn't supposed to be there.

After escaping, he and Jade go to the city, hoping to run across a clue as to where the talisman may have been taken. While Jackie shops, Jade meets Paco, a huge fan of a Mexican masked wrestler El Toro Fuerte. At first she thinks he is asking her on a date. He hands her a promotional poster for the upcoming match, and he claims that El Toro is the greatest wrestler in the world. Jade disagrees, declaring that wrestling is all fake, and regardless, she points to Jackie as the greatest. Paco invites her to bring him to the match to wrestle El Toro. At first, Jackie disagrees to go, but sees in the poster's picture of the wrestler that the Ox Talisman is attached to El Toro's mask.

Jackie and Jade go to to the match, and the Dark Hand follows. Paco arrives with tickets for Jade and himself, but Jade is disappointed about Jackie not planning to wrestle "the greatest wrestler in the world." While Jackie tries to find the talisman, the Dark Hand attacks him, and in an attempt to escape, he accidentally gets into the ring with El Toro. He plans to win so that (by custom of a wrestling loss) El Toro's mask will be taken off and he can get the talisman, but El Toro is stronger than expected and knocks Jackie out. In a dream sequence, Uncle reminds Jackie that each talisman possesses a different power, and it is possible that the Ox's is super-human strength. Jackie explains this to Jade (clearing up her disappointment at his loss), and the two of them go to retrieve the talisman.

Outside, El Toro is giving Paco an autograph, and the Dark Hand has noticed the talisman on El Toro's mask. Tohru tries to take the mask away from El Toro, but he is no match for the wrestler's strength. Jackie catches up and tries to persuade El Toro to give him the talisman, but he refuses. Suddenly, the Shadowkhan arrive and attack them, unmasking El Toro. Bare-faced, El Toro is easily subdued, and the Dark Hand takes the talisman, leaving the mask behind. Paco, heartbroken to find out that his hero is a "fake," runs from El Toro in tears. The Dark Hand also kidnaps Jackie and gets away.

El Toro's self-confidence is completely broken, but Jade convinces him to help her save Jackie and get the talisman. They find Jackie tied up in a plane, and they get him out, but before they untie him, he says the talisman is in the cockpit. They go inside to get it, and the plane takes off with Jackie hanging outside. While El Toro wrestles Tohru (more evenly-matched this time), Jade stops to try and help Jackie, but she realizes she needs the talisman's strength to pull him in, so she goes to the cockpit. The pilot quickly notices her, and she accidentally knocks him out. It is not until after Jackie manages to break free of his bonds and climb aboard that he and the others notice that the only person keeping the plane in the air is Jade.

Meanwhile, Paco is confronting his beloved posters, depressed about El Toro, when the plane crashes nearby. The four get out and Jackie and El Toro are ready to fight Tohru. Jade throws El Toro the talisman, but he throws it back, saying, "I would rather lose with dignity than win by deception." Paco is impressed by this declaration, realizing that El Toro is once again his hero. Tohru is able defeat the duo with a single hit, but Jade knocks him out with a single kick, aided by the talisman. Paco arrives and asks El Toro to teach him "the ways of the wrestler," stating that he is the best. This sparks Jade and Paco to resume their quarrel about whether Jackie or El Toro is the greatest.

Jackie is at a museum in New York City, attempting to convince the museum curator to give him the Snake Talisman before the Dark Hand could steal it. The curator assures him that, given the fact that they are trusted to hold the famous Pink Puma diamond, they can see that the talisman will not be stolen by the Dark Hand. Turning to leave, Jackie runs into Ratso, who is casing the museum. The two of them fight, and though Ratso gets away, Jackie gets his jacket and cell phone. Just then, Valmont calls, and by imitating Ratso's voice, Jackie learns that the plan is for the Enforcers to hit the museum at midnight that night.

Back at the hotel room, he tries to tell Jade to stay out of this, but at the same time, he is packing supplies to steal the talisman before the Dark Hand does. Jade follows him into the museum anyway and helps him. Meanwhile, a female thief named Viper is also breaking into the museum, aiming to steal the Pink Puma. Both of them successfully steal what they need, but when they are on the way out, they glimpse each other, sparking a fight. In the process, they drop their loot bags, but Jackie realizes that she is not with the Dark Hand. Jade is greatly impressed by her skills, but Jackie denounces her as a criminal. Given his own situation, this causes a moral dilemma to him, and in his flustered protests, he accidentally sets off the alarms. They escape, but Jackie realizes that their loot bags have been switched. The police are able to catch him, and they arrest him as a jewel thief. However, they do not recover the Pink Puma, which Jade has slipped into her own pocket.

The next day, Viper finds her accidental piece of loot, and she also discovers its power, invisibility. She uses it to bust Jackie out of prison, agreeing to trade the talisman for the diamond. Ratso follows them using the seeking device. The two of them meet up with Jade, who had brought along the diamond for just such a trade. After trading, however, the talisman turns out to be counterfeit, and even though Jackie and Jade look all around, Viper is already gone.

Back at Viper's apartment, Valmont has already arrived, demanding the talisman and ordering the Shadowkhan on her to get it. She turns invisible and goes out the window, but the Shadowkhan track and follow her. When Jackie and Jade are at the Thanksgiving Day parade, they notice a squad of Shadowkhan apparently fighting with nothing, and the Chans instantly know what is happening. Jackie helps Viper fight the Shadowkhan atop a Super Moose balloon. Jade gets into the fight also, and although one of the Shadowkhan is able to get the talisman and turn invisible, she quickly throws a bucket of paint on him, allowing Jackie is able to get the talisman back and beat the opponent. Then, the balloon pops a leak, rocketing and landing on top of the Statue of Liberty. The three of them are safe, but the talisman falls down and turns the statue invisible.

After they get down, Viper still has the Pink Puma. She admits to Jackie that she owes him one, and she leaves, despite his requests that she give the diamond back to him so he can return it. Jade turns to her uncle and confesses that she repeated her trick from before, revealing the the Pink Puma she just took back from Viper. Just then, a squad of police officers show up, and Jackie hastily surrenders the diamond. They are less than impressed, instead demanding to know what happened to the Statue of Liberty. Ironically smiles because he can not tell the police that a Talismen made the Statue of Liberty be invisible.

Jackie and Jade set out to find the Snake Talisman in a cave in South America. They cross paths with an egotistical "archaeologist" shooting for a TV show. After catching wind of their quest the "archaeologist" steals the Talisman. Things become more complicated after the Dark Hand shows up.

The Rabbit Talisman is discovered embedded in the shell of the giant tortoise named Aesop on the Galápagos Islands. Aesop is revealed to have been brought in at the local zoo as both Jade and Valmont had seen this report on their televisions. Jackie examines the tortoise to see how to remove the talisman, when the aquarium had been attacked by the Enforcers. Jackie fails to save the tortoise as the Dark Hand flies away on their private jet. Valmont, seeking to acquire more wealth tells his henchmen to take the tortoise to his friend, Karl Nivor, a wealthy man who enjoys feasting on exotic animals. Ratso turns out to have been left behind at the zoo, and is told to meet the others at a certain location. Jackie and Jade decide to follow Ratso. Jackie tricks Jade into thinking they were taking a taxi, only for Jade to find out she was going home with Uncle, who she tricks into thinking she is a Rabbit Demon.

Jade meets up with Jackie at a pier, as they watch Valmont's men sell the tortoise to Nivor, as they had already removed the talisman. Jackie starts following The Dark Hand though Jade insists that he must save Aesop. Jackie decides that he must retrieve the talisman first before getting to Aesop. While Jackie continues after The Dark Hand, Jade sneaks into Nivor's yacht to try to save Aesop. But Aesop is to heavy and does not even bother moving. Once Jackie gets to Tohru, he tries taking the talisman from Tohru's hand, only to accidentally activate its power. Tohru, now moving at lightning speed starts beating Jackie up. As Tohru shoots towards Jackie for a finishing move, Jackie tips a barrel full of oil, which causes Tohru to slip and release the rabbit talisman, which he also ends up tipping their jet over. Jackie looks for Jade, only to see the yacht had left the area and is quite far from him, now.

Jackie thinks about how to get over to the yacht, remembering the rabbit talisman's ability to grant the holder lightning speed. Jackie is now able to run across the water and reach the yacht. Shendu - furious with Valmont for sending his men to sell an animal instead of bringing the talisman straight to him - punishes his men and sends the Shadowkhan to finish the job of retrieving the talisman. After Jackie took down Nivor's chef, who was just about to prepare Aesop, the Shadowkhan appear. Jackie moves quickly, knocking down many of them with ease. Using the same trick, one of the Shadowkhan pulled down a barrel of oil, causing Jackie to slip and release the talisman. Jade, now in danger from Nivor, spots the talisman and puts it on Aesop, granting him lightning speed. Jade and Aesop moving so fast, grab Jackie and escape the yacht heading home. Aesop is back at the zoo and the rabbit talisman is now in Section 13.

In a mix of science and magic, the Rabbit Talisman sends Jade back in time to 1976, where she encounters younger versions of Jackie, Uncle and even Valmont. However when Shendu sends the Enforcers back to recover the Talisman (Which Jackie follows), they decide to try to change history by getting rid of the younger Jackie Chan.

As Jackie finds the Sheep Talisman in a train, he is immediately attacked by Shadowkhan, who take the talisman and throw it to the Enforcers, who are in a helicopter. They then launch missiles to destroy the rails and crash the train, but Jackie escapes, boards the helicopter, and escapes with the talisman. Jackie arrives at Uncle's shop where Jade is waiting for Jackie to take her to the Melvin World amusement park, but Uncle insists that Jackie help Uncle research what power the talisman holds.

While the others do research, Jade steals the talisman from its anti-dark-magic box, intending to activate it on her own. She succeeds, and the result is she projects her soul (or astral self) from her body. She realizes that she can fly and move through walls, and she is invisible and inaudible. Meanwhile, Finn and Ratso sneak to the shop, using the talisman detector to sneak past the library and take the talisman from Jade's body. It's so surprisingly easy that they exaggerate it as they give the talisman to Valmont, claiming to have fought Jackie to get it. Without comment, Valmont gives the talisman to Shendu, who is pleased with it but still needs the others. Then Ratso lets slip that they got it of a sleeping child, and Shendu realizes that the child has projected her soul, leaving her body empty. He flies to Jade's body, arriving just after she gets back to the room and notices the talisman missing. Before she can do anything else, he possesses her body

He then goes downstairs. "Jade" tells Jackie that he/she wants to go to Section 13, while the real Jade tries and fails to warn her family. Jackie tells Captain Black to pick her up, but Jade wonders why this ghost is so interested in going there. With a shock, she realizes it's after the talismans and exclaims that it must be working for the Dark Hand. As "Jade" is taken away, Uncle learns the power of the talisman, and as he describes the abilities of astral projection, he says astral bodies cannot be heard or seen unless they enter someone's dreams. Jade hears this and seizes the opportunity when Jackie falls asleep doing chores. She enters Jackie's dreams and warns him about the spirit. He doesn't believe her at first, and he nearly meets disaster by sleepwalking on the roof, but she convinces him to check the box and see that the talisman's gone. Waking up, he and Uncle confirm this, and Uncle realizes, "The Sheep talisman has put a wolf in sheep's clothing." He immediately begins research on a Chi spell to evict the demon, and he sends Jackie to stop the impostor.

Meanwhile, Shendu is unpleasantly surprised to find that Jackie told Captain Black about "her" wished-for vacation. Instead of going to Section 13, she has been taken to Melvin World. Although "she" tolerates the diversion in angry silence, this changes when Jackie catches up to them and tries to warn her chaperones. "She" responds by knocking them out and moving to fight Chan. She cannot prevail against him, so she summons the Shadowkhan instead. The battle moves onto a rollercoaster, with Shendu in one car hoping to run Jackie down. Just then, Jackie gets a cell phone call from Uncle, who has found the spell and requests that Jade be put on the phone. Jackie struggles his way to her side and puts the phone to her ear. Uncle chants the spell, and the magic goes through the phone line, expelling Shendu from Jade's body and flinging him back to his statue form. As he curses that he cannot break free, Valmont remarks, "Back so soon, Shendu? And what, no talismans?"

Jade quickly moves back into her body and apologizes to Jackie. He acknowledges that it is her fault that the Dark Hand now has a talisman, but it is also thanks to her that the rest of them are still safe. While smiling Jade asks Jackie if they can ride the roller coaster again.

Jade is getting bullied in school and after the Dark Hand are able to steal the Dragon Talisman from Jackie, Valmont uses it to steal money from the United States Mint against Shendu's wishes. Things get worse when Captain Black is hospitalized during Valmont's robbery which causes Jackie to develop a personal grudge in taking Valmont down, but he must put his anger aside and use his head if he is to stop Valmont from robbing Fort Knox. In the end Jackie defeats Valmont, whereas Jade teaches her former bullie martial arts.

Jackie breaks his leg in an accident from Jade's Gnomekop action figure and later, Jade accidentally drops the Rat Talisman into Gnomekop's battery storage and it comes alive, causing no end to the mischief.

After Jackie succeeds in taking the Horse Talisman from the Enforcers in the North Pole, the Enforcers return to the headquarters with empty hands and bad colds. Shendu is more angry than usual. He only holds the Sheep and Dragon talismans, while Jackie Chan has now gathered six of them. Ratso mutters to Finn, "Too bad Chan ain't working for us." This gives Valmont an idea, and Shendu helps him put it together.

In Section 13, Captain Black shows Jackie and Jade the vault in which the talismans are stored, protected by a high-clearance-level keycard lock, a numerical access code, and a floor that triggers a laser blast to anything stepping on it. While Jade tries (and fails) to guess the password for the defenses in the vault, Captain Black learns from Jackie that the talisman is still back at Uncle's shop for research of its magic. These results are revealed when Jackie and Jade get back to the shop; the inscription on the back translates to read, "When activated, the noble horse expels all alien forces within." Just as they discuss this, Jackie gets a call from Captain Black, revealing another talisman at Mount Rushmore. He convinces Jade to stay behind and work on the riddle.

As Jackie plucks the talisman from inside the sculpture, he is surprised to see it is the Snake, which they already have, but just then, the "talisman" opens up, revealing a bottled potion connected to a pair of sharp prongs that extend and puncture his hand. He drops the fake and looks up to see Valmont. Back atop the mountain, Valmont explains that the poison will turn Jackie to stone in 12 hours, and to receive the antidote, Valmont demands that Jackie hand over all the Talismans in the Section 13 vault; to demonstrate, Valmont catches a small fly and gives a small drop of the poison, quickly petrifying it. In the short time before Valmont departs, two of Jackie's fingers turn to stone.

Back in San Francisco, Uncle and Jade are horrified to hear what is happening. Uncle drops everything else to devise a new antidote, but when they are alone, Jade confronts Jackie. She tries to convince him to agree to the deal, but he refers to his duty to not let the Dark Hand gather the powers of all the talismans. Jade becomes frantic, not wanting her uncle to be petrified, but Jackie just phones Captain Black to bring Jade back to Section 13. Much more calmly, she accepts this. Later that night, she sneaks through Section 13, steals Captain Black's ID card, guesses the access code from the parts of it she saw before, and uses a grapnel and a glass cutter to reach the storage case for the talismans. Back at the shop, Jackie is receiving yet another of Uncle's ineffective remedies when Captain Black informs him of the theft. Though Captain Black thinks it was just Jade trying to prove her ability to be an agent, Jackie knows Jade's real motivation.

At the meeting place atop Coit Tower, the sniffling Enforcers are surprised to see Jade arrive. She holds out her knapsack full of talismans, while Tohru presents the bottle of antidote. Before they can trade, Jackie arrives (with the stone spreading to his limbs) and fights the Enforcers. In the scuffle, Tohru obtains the bag and counts the talismans, finding one missing. Jade remembers she left the Horse behind, and when she tries to negotiate the deal anyway, Tohru responds by dropping the antidote. To her despair, she does not reach it in time, and it shatters on the floor. Just then, Uncle arrives with the Horse Talisman, hoping to make the trade. Tohru promptly takes it from him and turns to leave. But the Chans fight for it, and though Tohru's concentration is broken by a huge sneeze, the talisman activates in his hand. The Chans get it back and knock Tohru down the stairs. Jackie holds it tightly in his hand, keeping it from the Enforcers as the final effects of the poison turn him stone from head to toe.

Uncle knocks out the other Enforcers, and he and Jade try to accept what has happened. They turn around as Tohru climbs back to the top floor, but he is not acting combative. Instead, he breathes deeply, savoring the fact that his cold is gone. In a flash, Uncle and Jade realize that the "alien forces" meant sickness, which means that the Horse is the healing talisman. Jade quickly runs to it and sneezes on it, triggering its magic, which illuminates Jackie completely. When it clears, Jackie is back to normal, and he kicks Tohru back down the stairs. Glad to have him back, Jade also gets a sinking feeling as she realizes she has to confess the theft. However, Jackie is not critical of her at all because he knows why she made her choice. He says, "We can tell Captain Black you were between a rock and a hard place".

Shendu is growing impatient with the Dark Hand, as he only has two talismans, while six others are locked away in Section 13. Just then, Finn and Ratso walk in with a newspaper, and Shendu notices a familiar picture there. The local museum has recently acquired a statue of a Ling dynasty warrior named Lo Pei, who was the one that sealed Shendu into statue form and took the talismans to be concealed across the globe. Valmont reads that the statue bears inscriptions, and on the chance that these may help locate the remaining talismans, Shendu sends the Enforcers to obtain the statue. By the time they reach the museum, it is gone, but Chow discovers a note saying that it's on loan to Jackie Chan.

At the shop, Jackie and Uncle are already studying the inscriptions. They are interrupted when Jade propels her scooter through the front door and crashes headlong into the statue. It crumbles to fragments, and Jackie scolds her severely for it. She is left with the wreckage, wishing she could help. Some time later, he and Uncle look back and find that the statue's remains are gone. Just then, the Enforcers arrive, demanding the statue. A fight breaks out, but Jackie fends them off, and they have no choice but to leave, realizing the statue isn't to be had.

In her room at Section 13, it turns out that Jade has the statue's fragments, and she uses the Horse talisman on them, reassembling all the pieces seamlessly. She then turns her attention to the inscriptions, but she comes up with an alternative idea to translating them. She fetches the Rat talisman from the vault also, then returns to the room and activates it. The talisman flies into the middle of the statue, and in a flash of light, Lo Pei is standing there, alive once again. He does not know where he is or what he is doing there, but when Jade asks him about the talismans and he sees the Horse in her hand, he demands to know what has become of them. This leads him to the vault, and even though it is locked again, he uses scroll magic to break it open. He notes that quite a few are missing (Jade acknowledges the "absence" of the Rat with a guilty feeling), but he takes all of the others, intending to safeguard them from being recovered by "the ultimate evil." Even when Section 13's guards arrive and hold him to gunpoint, he uses another scroll to paralyze them, and he blasts his way out of the base.

Jackie catches up with Jade, and he trails Lo Pei, who is using another scroll to fly to Alcatraz Island with the intent to secure a talisman there. Jackie tries to explain to Lo Pei that he is actually a statue and that he needs to return the talismans, but Lo Pei is not convinced. Furthermore, he is offended when Jackie asks for more details about his own goal, as he refuses to even speak the name of "the ultimate evil." Jackie resorts to pulling out the newspaper article describing the statue, which Lo Pei interprets as a scroll attack, prompting him to fight back. From afar, Jade can only watch the fight, and when Lo Pei returns to the mainland, she catches up with the warrior. She tries a more friendly line, indicating with a thumbs-up and her natural enthusiasm that they are on his side.

She is interrupted by the Enforcers, who also saw Jackie and Lo Pei fighting and reported it to Valmont. Shendu realized how Lo Pei came back to life and supplied the Enforcers with traditional warrior's robes so they could convince Lo Pei to ally himself with them. In this guise, they pretend to share his background and goals. He believes them, but just as he is about to entrust the talismans to them, they move to capture Jade as well. He recognizes that no warriors would hurt a child, but Tohru appears and smashes a taxicab down onto him. The Enforcers swipe the talismans and escape.

Jackie arrives to find Jade frantic, but just then, Lo Pei uses his magic to levitate the taxi off of him. He is surprised to find that he is not harmed, and his surprise deepens to bewildered shock when he sees a promotional poster for the museum's statue of his likeness. Jade confesses that the magic of the Rat is in him. He realizes it is true, and he also realizes that he has failed his cause by losing so many of the talismans to evil hands. She encourages him to keep trying, and her spirited speech works. He renews his dedication, mimicking her modern-day cheer as he vows to defeat the Dark Hand.

Soon enough, the Dark Hand comes racing back wielding energy swords, driven by Shendu's threats after having discovered that the Rat talisman is still in Lo Pei's care. The warrior calmly immobilizes the Enforcers, magically stuns Tohru, and takes all the talismans back. Then, Shadowkhan appear from nowhere, surrounding them. Turning to face the battle, he passes the talismans to Jackie and Jade, entrusting them with his charge to protect them, lest "the ultimate evil" return. They accept this and retreat by jetski. With all his magic, Lo Pei fights Shendu's minions, even though he is far outnumbered. When they are closing in on him and the Chans are nearly out of sight, he reaches to his chest, removes the Rat talisman, and throws it to his friends. Jade reaches back to catch it, blinking back tears as Lo Pei stands tall and turns back into a statue.

Back at the museum, Jackie and Uncle are noting the statue is again safe and sound. Jade is still upset and has her back turned at first. She only turns around when Jackie calls her attention to something different about the statue. Uncle gasps, and so does she when she sees that Lo Pei is now giving a thumbs-up. She smiles and returns the cheering salute.

Jackie and Jade recover the Monkey Talisman from underwater near Micronesia, and they are soon found by the Enforcers, who chase them back onto their boat. While Jackie grapples with Tohru, Jade is left holding the talisman, and she tries to activate its magic. Nauseated by the churning motion of the boat caused by the storm's waves, she hopes she can get it to work "before this boat ride makes me yack." The talisman promptly glows, and Jade flinches just as it launches a beam of energy. The magic hits Jackie, turning him into a bewildered yak. Jade realizes the talisman's power is transformation, and by calling "Change him back," she turns Jackie back to normal. But before she can use its power again, a massive wave capsizes the boat and knocks everyone unconscious.

They awaken washed up on a nearby island, which features a shoreline bordering a jungle notably populated by monkeys. The Enforcers are still together, but Jackie and Jade are each alone. While exploring the jungle, Jade has another run-in with the Enforcers, but she still has the talisman. She stops running away long enough to pick up a hollow log and try to change in into "a death ray." When she finds a flapping manta ray in her hand, she frantically changes it back, realizing the talisman only creates forms of animals. She turns the talisman onto her enemies, turning Ratso into a rat, but some of her beams miss the target, and she retreats behind a tree. She then turns herself into a monkey, and the Enforcers run past her without seeing the change. Just as she thinks she is safe, another monkey steals the talisman and she is unable to change back.

Meanwhile, Jackie is still trying to regain his bearings, and monkey-Jade leaps into his path. However, she can only speak with monkey noises, and Jackie fails to understand her, walking away. She is seized by a mother monkey, who seems to think Jade is one of her children and takes Jade away.

Jackie finds the Enforcers, who are busy chasing the monkey with the talisman. Jackie ties Finn up with some vines, and when Ratso falls to the ground, Finn calls his name. Jackie picks up Ratso as a threat, forcing Finn to tell where Jade is. A misinterpretation of the facts leads them all to think that the monkey with the talisman is Jade, and Jackie runs after it, leaving Ratso and Finn behind. When Jackie captures the monkey and the talisman, the reversal magic does not work, which confuses him enough for the Enforcers to capture all of them and restore Ratso.

While the Enforcers are debating what would be the right form to inflict on Jackie, trying to choose between a dog, an emu, a cockroach, then Tohru suggests they turn Jackie into an edible animal, which Chow suggests chicken. Jackie claims that they would be cannibals if doing so, then a familiar-looking monkey swoops down, grabs the talisman, and points it at herself. The magic turns her back into Jade, who frees Jackie. The following fight involves most of the characters changing into and out of forms (some of which prove surprisingly useful) as the talisman changes hands. (Even Chow is heard to call out a few spells.) Jade accidentally turns Jackie into a kangaroo, which is actually useful in fighting the Enforcers while Tohru turns Jade into a rabbit. Jackie puts Jade and the Talisman into his pouch then hop away to a cliff, before Jade changes themselves back. Though Jackie and Jade escape from the battle scene with the talisman, they find themselves cornered on a cliff by the entirely-human Enforcers. In a last-ditch effort, Jade does an impression of a monkey yell, calling many monkeys to the scene, led by the mother monkey. The barrage of tiny fists drives the Enforcers into retreat, and the Chans are home free with the talisman and a few new furry friends. The mother monkey greets Jade and the monkey that was turned into a giraffe by accident also says good-bye to the Chans. It is later explained physically that the monkey who stole the Talisman from Jade ran off from his mother monkey meaning she mistook Jade when she was a monkey as her offspring who just ran away from her.

Jade is trying to explain her trip to the island to her class, but gains no interest, as usual.

Jackie digs out the Dog Talisman from inside the wall of a windmill, but Tohru appears on the scene, led by the magical talisman detector. Jackie tries talking Tohru over to side of Section 13, then dodges past him. In the attempts to restrain his nemesis, Tohru drops the detector out the window of the windmill and then falls out the window himself. Jackie gets away easily, and the detector is snapped in half when Tohru lands on it. For this double failure, Tohru is put to shame, and Valmont hires a freelancer to assist the quest: a muscular man named Hak Foo. Though Tohru is initially critical of the newcomer, a fierce demonstration shows that Hak Foo is more than capable in combat.

Jackie calls Jade while his plane has a layover in Bavaria, and she reminds him of their intended surprise birthday party for Uncle. This reminds him to buy a gift, and as he hears the boarding call, he ducks into a souvenir shop, rushing through the slim pickings and settling on some chocolates and cheese. Later that day at the shop, Uncle criticizes Jade's taste in music. Her offer to teach him some dance moves is met with a grumpy refusal, and is clear that Uncle is feeling his age. After Jackie gets home, he and Jade surprise Uncle with their gifts. Hers is the photo of her from Melvin World (although "she" is scowling, being possessed by Shendu at the time), but Jackie's gifts are met with a cranky reception, as chocolates and cheese cause problems for Uncle. Then, Jackie brings out "one more thing:" the Dog Talisman, which is Uncle's sign. Uncle takes it and leaves the rest of the birthday party behind to do research.

While Jackie practices his martial arts, Jade has some of the birthday chocolate, and she asks if Uncle was always so cranky. She unwraps a piece during the reply that, when Uncle was younger, he was just like Jackie. Any further discussion is cut off when she notices that the piece of chocolate has an octagon shape and a drawing of a pig in the same style as the talismans. Jackie agrees with the resemblance and decides he must go back to Bavaria. Uncle appears with a duffel bag and cheerily announces that he could use a change of scenery and will come along. Jade is ecstatic at the fact that she can go too, since there is no one left to babysit her, but Jackie is just bewildered at Uncle's energetic actions and willingness to leave the shop.

In Bavaria, Jackie investigates the local chocolate factory, where he plods through an extensive lecture on Grandpapa Ferkel's success in chocolate production, a tour of the factory, a praise of Ferkel's generous donation of the town's clocktower, and a blank response to the words "Pig Talisman." Uncle is having fun with Jade as they combine hip hop dance moves with the local music, but she begins to get suspicious. When she talks to him about this, he shows her that he is wearing the Dog Talisman as a pendant. His research the previous night had shown the Dog Talisman to have the power of immortality, but Jade only notes that the talisman has restored the vigor of his youth.

That night, Jackie returns to the factory, but before he can search, he is confronted by Hak Foo, who introduces himself and unleashes his signature fighting style. Jackie takes a harsh beating, failing to counterattack, and Hak Foo knocks him silly. Just as he stands over his opponent, Hak Foo hears a challenge from Uncle, who has also arrived. Jade worries that Uncle shouldn't face someone who beat Jackie, but Uncle gently pushes her aside from the fight. Hak Foo goes for a quick finish and is stunned when Uncle blocks the move with ease. He then tries his previous moves, but Uncle dodges all of them, and when he tries an aerial attack, Uncle leaps just as high and knocks him down. Jackie and Jade are surprised and impressed, but Hak Foo uses a feint combination to punch Uncle into a brick wall. His opponent unmoving, Hak Foo leaves triumphantly. Shortly after this, Uncle sits up, and the others wonder at him being not only alive but unharmed. He leads Jade in heading for the Pig Talisman, which at first confuses Jackie, as no one knows where that is.

Arriving at the top of the clocktower, Jade points out what she and Uncle had seen earlier that day: the automated pig that rings its cymbals on the hour bears the real Pig Talisman on its hat. Just then, Tohru appears and clamps Jackie in his arms, and Hak Foo thanks them for revealing where the talisman is. But his confidence is cut short when he notices Uncle, who frees Jackie and knocks out Tohru with a headbutt to the face. While Jade uses the clocktower's gears to climb up to the pig's platform, Uncle and Jackie battle Hak Foo, who is unable to fend off the tandem attacks. Outmatched, he goes for the talisman, snatching it from Jade just as the others reach the same platform. As he holds it, it glows, and his eyes burn with fire.

Beams of energy shoot out from his eyes, and his opponents duck for cover. Before Hak Foo regains his wits enough for an encore of his new "Heat Beam Eye Blast" attack, the clock chimes, he is carried outside the clocktower by the rotating platform, and he is slapped dizzy by the mechanical pig's cymbals. He falls from the platform, saving himself by grabbing the clock's hour hand. The others look down at him, and Tohru's smirk at seeing the stumble is cut off when he sees the Dog Talisman in Uncle's possession. He lunges, and Uncle knocks him also off the tower. When he grabs the minute hand, his weight pulls it back along its circle just as Hak Foo musters the Pig's magic again. The two hands and thugs collide, and their fall from the tower is barely cushioned by a crash onto a laden market cart. But the fire beams were firing during the entire fall, and the tower begins to tip backwards. As the slant becomes perilous, Jackie grabs Jade and begins to run down the incline, with Uncle keeping pace easily. They leap from the tower just before it hits the ground, landing atop an awning. Uncle finally holds out the Dog Talisman and thanks Jackie for the renewal of his youth. The second the talisman is out of his hands, Uncle goes back to his old tone, declaring that being young was too much for him. But beyond the relief of having both talismans, the others are glad to have him back.

Jackie gets the Tiger Talisman and its power splits Jackie into his light and dark sides. The Dark Jackie gives the talismans to Valmont, who then revives Shendu.

Shendu has received all twelve talismans and has transformed into a humanoid dragon twice the height of anyone else. With only moderate bragging, Shendu uses his combustion magic to blast Jackie out the wall of the office, and when Jade looks to her Uncle, the floor crumbles beneath her too. Plummeting down from the skyscraper, Jackie saves them both by using a window-washer cart's cable to slow his fall, and then he catches Jade with the window-washers help. Back in the office, Valmont requests the treasure promised as payment, but Shendu replies that it was not Valmont that brought him the talismans, but Chan. Enraged at this refusal, Valmont orders Tohru to make Shendu pay him, overriding his employee's visible reluctance. As Tohru leaps in for a half-hearted attack, Shendu calmly uses levitation to immobilize Tohru and super strength to flick him out of the building. Valmont and the others leave the room with bad grace, meeting arrest at the hands of Captain Black the moment the elevator doors open. Captain Black arrives in the shattered office just in time to see Shendu fly away, which completely bewilders him, forcing to him to realize that magic and demons really do exist.

Back at Uncle's shop, the combined descriptions from Jackie, Jade, and Captain Black are not enough to tell Uncle what demon has the talismans. To their surprise, Tohru arrives, having survived with moderate injuries. He tells them the demon is named Shendu, and he offers to turn himself in to Section 13. With this information, Uncle locates the story of Shendu's rule. When the demon was overthrown by his subjects, he vowed to take revenge upon their descendants by destroying all of Asia. Escorted by a squad of Section 13 agents, Uncle and Jackie travel to China, the location of Shendu's palace. (Jackie expressly forbade Jade from coming along, knowing the threat to her parents would make Jade want to join the fight. She gets out of Section 13 anyway, along with the Dark Hand, who escaped via some technology Valmont smuggled in.)

The troops from Seaction 13 arrive at the castle moments before Shendu does, and they see him open a magical gateway to unleash a swarm of dragon minions once Chinese New Year strikes in a matter of minutes. Uncle hands Jackie a bottle of potion, putting some of it on Jackie's hands. With this spell, his hands can penetrate Shendu's skin and take out the talismans. If Jackie can remove the Rat Talisman, Shendu will revert to his statue form and his magic will be broken.

Jackie gets to Shendu and is soon noticed, using all his reflexes to dodge Shendu's attacks and keep snatching talismans. He does not get the Rat, and the few counterattacks he can make are easily withstood by Shendu's remaining power. His biggest shock yet comes when he realizes Jade has arrived to the middle of the battlefield, but he is cut short when Shendu overwhelms him, shakes him down, and prepares to throw him to the hungry dragons. Just then, Jade leaps onto his back, having picked up and used the rest of Uncle's potion. She snatches the Dog Talisman, and Jackie uses the moment to wriggle free and fish out the Rat Talisman. With a roar of rage, Shendu collapses back into statue form, and the summoning portal closes up. Shendu sneers venomously at the Chans, but without hesitation, Jade holds up the dropped Dragon Talisman and blasts Shendu to smithereens with it since without the Dog Talisman Shendu is not immortal. The castle immediately crumbles to powder shortly after that, and the Chans scramble for safety.

No one sees the four figures rise from the ruins; the Dark Hand had snuck into the castle during the fight to raid it of treasure, but all the riches had also crumbled away. As they look around, they glimpse the talismans poking up out of the earth. Back with the Section 13 escort (who finally get that "magic must defeat magic", except for Black, who was unconscious), Uncle is furious, claiming that destroying Shendu has thrown off the balance of light and darkness, leaving a void for a new and stronger evil to fill. Still, the sight of the New Year's fireworks in the distance is a calming sight to Jackie and to Jade, knowing that the threat has been defeated.

Some time later, Jackie, Uncle and Tohru, who has just moved in, are beginning to miss Jade. Just then, Jade pops up at the door, having been permitted by her parents to stay with them for another year.

References to Jackie Chan's Career

  • In one of the first episodes Jackie runs on the side of a building. This is the same move Jackie Chan does in the movie 'Who Am I?'.
  • When Jackie first meets Jade in the first episode, he assumes that she doesn't speak English when she refuses to talk to him, only to find out later that she does. This is a reference to the film Rush Hour, when Jackie's character first arrives in America, and Chris Tucker's character assumes he doesn't speak English.
  • Animated Jackie's all beige/khaki clothes are also similar in appearance to the real Jackie in his film Armor of God. A second season episode was titled "Armor of the Gods" reference to his film Armor of God.
  • In the first episode entitled The Dark Hand, Jackie fights Finn, Ratso and Chow in a playground. There is a similar playground fight scene in the Jackie Chan film Police Story 2.
  • In another first season episode Tough Break, Jackie is seen waterskiing with a cast on his leg. This is a reference to the waterskiing scene from the Jackie Chan film Rumble in the Bronx where Jackie performed the scene with a disguised cast under his costume. Jackie had broken his ankle shooting a prior stunt where he jumped onto a passing hovercraft.
  • The episode Project A, For Astral is homage to Jackie's film Project A.
  • The Season Two episode Showdown in the Old West has Jackie's ancestor during the Old West looking just like Shanghai Noon. Another episode from season 2 is titled "Shanghai Moon" (instead of 'Noon') where Jackie fights the Moon Demon.
  • The Season Two episode And He Does His Own Stunts is a reference to Jackie's stunt work in his movies.
  • In The Tiger and the Pussycat, Jackie splits into "good" and "evil" twins. Jackie Chan played dual roles in The Twin Dragons, one is a musical conductor and the other was the lost twin, who is the only one with martial arts moves. Another possible reference can be seen during the fight between "light" and "dark" versions of Jackie in Tiger and the Pussycat where "Light" Jackie fights balancing onto makeshift stilts; using a ladder split vertically by "dark" Jackie. In the Jackie Chan film, Police Story 4: First Strike (known as Jackie Chan's First Strike in the US), Jackie has a fight scene whilst wearing stilts.
  • In a Season 3 episode, Jackie is bitten by a snake. The poison affects him, putting him in a drunken state, which he uses to his advantage. This is an allusion to Jackie's movie Drunken Master as well as 'Who Am I?' where a race driver is bitten by a snake. Another possible "Drunken Master" reference appears in season 5, in the episode "Clash of the Titanics". Jackie (wearing SCUBA gear) explores a sunken ship which holds the chi of the thunder demon, Tchang Zu. Jackie, pursued by StrikeMaster Ice and his gang, is forced to surface too quickly and gets "the bends", a condition which makes him delusional, i.e., drunken.
  • During the episode when Jade went back in time to Jackie's childhood, adult Jackie and young Uncle perform the same double team technique that Jackie Chan used with Chris Tucker in Rush Hour.
  • Another scene pays homage to Jackie Chan's trademark act, where he fights against a number of enemies while talking on the phone.
  • The Episode "Half a Mask of Kung Fu" from season 4 is a reference to Jackie's directorial debut, Half a Loaf of Kung Fu.
  • The Season 2 episode name "Rumble in the Big House" is a reference to Jackie's movie, U.S hit film Rumble in the Bronx.
  • In the episode "The Power Within" Jackie fights the bad guys in a restaurant, which is similar to the restaurant fight in Police Story 2.
  • The episode titled "Glove Story" is similar to Jackie's film Police Story.
  • In season 3's "The Ox-Head Incident" Jackie sneakingly switches places with Uncle's spiritual head (who's trapped inside Daolon Wong's crystal ball) on top of a headless sculpture while Wong was looking away. There is a similar scene in Chan's film Armor of God where Jackie accidentally breaks off the head of a statue (of whom the natives worshiped) and replaces his head with it at the last second.
  • The Season 3 episode "A Night at the Opera" features a scene where Jade accidentally causes the stage background to fall onto Uncle and his old friend Wing, only to avoid getting smashed through the square opening in the center. This is a reference to a scene in Jackie's film Project A 2 when the front of a building collapses onto Jackie, but narrowly escapes harm through an open window as it hit the ground. As a side note from this episode, Uncle also describes he was once a part of the stage group called the "Seven Little Fortunes" at the Peking Opera school — which Jackie Chan was a part of in real life.

Trivia

  • Jackie and other characters from the show appear in a lot of promos for Kids WB. Also the show aired on Jetix as well, starting on September 5, 2006 to 2007. During the 1,000 Summper prizes game competition promo on Jetix, Jackie can be seen representing the Kung Fu squad and the Jetix Team. Also during the 2007 Shocktober Halloween season on Jetix, Jackie can be seen running away from bats. The show also aired on Toonami in 2004, starting June 5, 2004 to July 17, 2004.
  • The real Jackie Chan appears at the end of every episode answering various fan mail that he received from his fans. He also appears during various parts of the opening sequence. He also was the executive producer for the series.
  • The opening sequence took almost a year to develop.
  • The character of Uncle Chan is based on Charles Chan, Jackie's father.
  • All animated Jackie's beige/khaki clothes are similar to the real Jackie's clothes in the film Armor of God (1986).
  • Throughout various fifth season episodes, several of the magical talismans are hidden on screen.
  • Rock band Wheatus recorded a theme song called "Jackie Chan's the Man" which would play during the end credits. However, during credit titles is when KidsWB airs promotions for their other shows, and thus the song has yet to air during the credits (even though Wheatus is credited). KidsWB began airing the song over some montage shots between episodes. In the USA, the only way to hear the song during the closing credits is to view the Spanish Language version that currently airs on Telemundo Saturday mornings, but the song is still in English.
  • The masked luchador, El Toro Fuerte, prides himself at never removing his mask. Ironically enough, in every episode that has centered around El Toro, but not every episode in which he has appeared, El Toro loses/removes his mask. He also says "Sorry!" in every episode he has appeared in, excluding the finale.
  • As a child, Uncle Chan was part of the Seven Little Fortunes opera troupe, like the real Jackie Chan.
  • Throughout various fifth-season episodes, several of the magical talismans are hidden on screen.
  • Although very confusing, the phrase that Uncle Chan repeats in battles, "Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao", is actually a mantra of positivity that translates into warding off evil spirits.
  • The combat scenes in the animation served as a reference for several future works, such as Avatar: The Legend of Aang.
  • Throughout the seasons, many references from Jackie's films are inserted in the episodes and even striking scenes of the actor's fights were reproduced in the series.
  • Season 5 has talismans hidden throughout.
  • Originally after Season 5 was done, there were plans to continue the show through comic book form. The comic book sequel would explain more things that were not explained fully in the show, it would take place a few years after the original show while the main villain would be Madame Dragon the wife of Shendu and mother of Drago who creates super villains that have power of each of the Demon sorcerers while being the true leader of a new criminal organization that is run by a crime boss (who was to resemble actor Giancarlo Esposito) and his nephew who bust Strikemaster Ice and his gang out of juvenile hall as their enforcers. The comic book series would explain that after the Talismans where removed from the Earth with Shendu, their powers later went into newborn humans of the zodiac birth years they were born while the original Talismans and their powers are still in Shendu (still in the Demon world) and Jackie Chan has to recruit them into the J-Team to help fight Madame Dragon and her army. The series would show a newly built and advance Section 13, new quests and items to race against, new characters including Tohru's apprentice that would be a new and different character and a humanoid cat person from Vietnam who is part of the Cat Zodiac. However plans for the comic book series are put on hold due to copyrights and talks with Dynamite Entertainment and Boom! Comics for who would publish the series.
