Ito Nishimiya

Ito Nishimiya (西宮いと) is a supporting character in the Koe no Katachi series. She

died peacefully in her sleep during Chapter 29. Ito is the mother of Yaeko, and the grandmother of Shoko and Yuzuru. She was Shoko's and Yuzuru's primary caretaker after her mean son-in-law abandoned their family and Yaeko was forced to spend all her time working to financially support their family.

Ito is very patient, kind hearted, and a selfless person when it comes to her daughter and granddaughters, and gave up her time of retirement to raise her two granddaughters. She did this by quickly learning sign language so she could communicate with Shōko and respects Yuzuru's hobbies despite how strange they are. Ito is the only person Yuzuru feels that she can confide in about her problems, and she patiently understands with Yaeko's grumpy nature. As she admits that she did all of this because she wanted to and because she had her own reasons, as Yuzu felt that Ito should be going to the senior center instead of being with her family. Ito admits that despite how everything turned out for her family she loves how she has two wonderful strong grandchildren.
