Trivia[]
- The character Wayne, who works at the video store with Jude and Wyatt (and later becomes more frequent of a character), is based on and heavily similar to Jack Black's character in High Fidelity (2000). They look the same, sound the same, and are both sarcastic, annoying, yet likeable know-it-alls.
- This series was animated using the partially-developed software ToonBoom Harmony (previously known as ToonBoom Symphony). The same staff would later use this software for 3 other Nelvana series, Detentionaire (2011), Grossology (2006) and Corn & Peg (2019), along with Fresh TV series Stoked (2009).
- In the episode "Life Slaver", Ron the rent-a-cop is caught dancing and flying on camera. This is a tribute to the music video "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim, where Christopher Walken also dances and flies. Ron is based off Walken, with a similar voice, speech habits and appearance.
- Ron the rent-a-cop suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder throughout the series, as well as frequent visual Vietnam War flashbacks in which he was tortured and held hostage. This was not merely character development; the Ron character was based on real-life actor Christopher Walken, and the war flashbacks were included as a nod to Walken's award-winning 1970's performance in the film The Deer Hunter, where he played a young Soviet-American war vet who was tortured and held hostage during the Vietnam War.
- 6Teen was Anthony Christian Potenza's first iconic role as a voice actor. After voicing Jude from 6Teen, he has voiced many other iconic characters from Canadian cartoons such as Chris McLean from Total Drama (2007) and Zed Point Conasty from Detentionaire (2011).
- This is Tom McGillis and Jen Persch's last show they worked at Nelvana before they left to form Fresh TV.
- Some of the stores parodied in 6Teen include RadioShack, Abercrombie and Fitch, La Senza, Dress Barn, The Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), Shoppers Drug Mart, Orange Julius, Victoria's Secret, Taco Bell, Blockbuster Video, GAP Clothing, Forever 21, Old Navy, Starbucks, and Chapters Indigo, among others. Many of these companies are purely Canadian, while others are better-known as U.S.-based corporations that have opened chains in Canadian malls. Some of the parodied stores that existed as major retail chains at the time 6Teen was created no longer exist in western Canada anymore as of 2021, especially in relation to the 2008 Financial Crisis and the later COVID-19 Pandemic, which saw the bankruptcy and downscale of numerous businesses.
- Much like Teletoon's other teenager cartoons, Stoked (2009) and Detentionaire (2011), 6Teen was ultimately cancelled due to its performance in the United States. When Cartoon Network bought the rights to air 6Teen in the United States, they aired the episodes out of order, and the episodes were heavily censored with only 79 of them making it. This led to a low performance in the United States and ultimately, its cancellation.
- Terry McGurrin wasn't supposed to be Jonesy at the first place. the role was originally given to another actor. But the creators fired him, and hired McGurrin believe he was the creators second choice. but when they played the audition tape, it wasn't him. but thanks to the director's, they keep him and led to being Jonesy.
- Jen works at the Penalty Box in the show. it's also a Bang On Or Bogus question on Skatoony.
- The show's title is a reference to both that the characters are six teenagers and 16 years-of-age.
- Oddly, the Netflix series "That '90s show" (which is live-action and a spinoff of "That '70s Show") also has six teenagers as it's focus and one of them is named "Nikki".
